Kitchen POD installation ensures seamless living after escape of water

The ICAB Claims team received a call from an insurance company regarding a policyholder who had suffered an escape of water at their home.  As the damage was confined to the kitchen, the installation of a POD was the most appropriate option to be considered. 

The instruction was immediately passed to a member of the dedicated PODS team who contacted the policyholder within one hour to assess the suitability of installing an external kitchen POD. The primary criteria to consider for an external POD is that it needs to be placed on private accessible land, which was perfect for this particular claim.

Our PODs offer a practical and cost-effective alternative for those who need to remain at their property. They enable the customer to live in their own home with minimal disruption as they provide the amenities required while repairs are completed. 

With all the positive attributes of a POD in mind during this difficult situation, the policyholder agreed and the process began. The team requested a photograph of the policyholder’s fuseboard so they could determine the compatibility of installation. For safety reasons, PODs cannot be connected to a standard socket, so an electrician was arranged to install a ‘commando’ socket.  (This is a type of electrical socket and plug that is commonly used in industrial and commercial environments.)

The POD was delivered and professionally installed by one of the expert team on a mutually agreed date. During the handover, the policyholder was given a full briefing to ensure safe and proper use of the POD.

Equipped with a fridge, freezer compartment, 3 in 1 combi microwave oven and grill, extractor fan, sink, extended sink drainer, induction hob and pans and fire blanket, the POD provided everything the policyholder needed to store, prepare and cook meals whilst works were carried out at their home.

After three weeks, the repairs were complete! The POD was collected and delivered back to our warehouse ready to be prepped for the next customer.

The delighted policyholder took the time to call in and gave positive feedback for the team: ‘We have had brilliant service from beginning to end with the whole   POD TEAM!!’
